Plan Your Nature Trip to Colombia

Everything you need to know to prepare for your Colombian wildlife adventure

Best Time to Visit

Colombia sits on the equator, so there are no traditional seasons — instead, regional weather patterns create year-round opportunities. The dry seasons (December–February and June–August) are ideal for most regions. Whale watching on the Pacific peaks July–November. Birding is excellent year-round, with North American migrants boosting species counts from October to March. We help you optimize timing based on your specific wildlife interests.

What to Expect

Nature travel in Colombia ranges from comfortable (air-conditioned 4x4s, quality lodges, paved roads) to adventurous (jungle canoe expeditions, high-altitude hikes, remote field stations). We match the experience level to your preferences. Most trips combine multiple regions — a typical two-week itinerary might cover Andean cloud forests, Caribbean lowlands, and an Amazon extension.

Health, Safety, and Logistics

Colombia has improved dramatically in safety and tourism infrastructure. The areas popular for ecotourism are generally safe and well-connected. Yellow fever vaccination is required for Amazon and some lowland regions. Altitude acclimatization matters when visiting highland birding sites above 3,000 meters. We handle all logistics including domestic flights, ground transport, local guides, and accommodation.

Custom Itinerary Design

Every Sula trip is custom-designed. Tell us your interests (birding, mammals, marine life, photography, general wildlife), available time (minimum 7 days recommended), fitness level, and budget range. We’ll create a detailed day-by-day itinerary with the best destinations, lodges, and guides for your specific goals. No group tours, no fixed departures — your trip, your schedule.
